Today, is the independence day of Cyprus, so I decided to dedicat this day to my beautiful country. The picture above is of the church of Ayios Mamas. It is located at the village of Ayios Sozomenos which has been abandoned after the war in 1974. The reason I’m posting this picture on this day is because although my island has been through many tragedies, wars, and crisis, it is still standing tall and proud. No matter how many people have tried to destroy our country, change our culture, language, or religion we are still true to our selves and beliefs.
Certainly, we are now different but better. The people nowadays have more opportunities and options regarding education, jobs, and travelling. We are but a tiny country that consists only 0.02% of the world’s population but we have a history that is longer than many nations which are bigger and stronger.
Nonetheless, today Cyprus is 60 years old and hopefully we will have more fruitful and prosperous years.
Thanks for reading! Have a lovely day and stay safe:)
